The Commercial Diving Association Singapore (CDAS) has observed the current hot and hazy weather conditions affecting Singapore and the surrounding region. Dry conditions have been observed across many parts of the southern ASEAN region. These conditions may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses and reduce visibility in outdoor work environments.
CDAS strongly urges all members and the commercial diving community to take the following precautions:
- Stay well hydrated by drinking water regularly, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or, where possible, air-conditioned areas, especially during prolonged outdoor work.
- Look out for one another and remain vigilant for signs of heat-related illness among your colleagues.
- Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and use appropriate sun protection.
- Monitor for signs and symptoms of heat stress, including dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, nausea, muscle cramps, and confusion. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.
- Personnel with respiratory conditions should minimise exposure to haze and wear a suitable face mask (e.g. an N95 respirator) when working outdoors if air quality deteriorates.
- Managers and supervisors should closely monitor their teams for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke and ensure that adequate hydration, rest breaks, and work-rest cycles are observed.
Members are also advised to continue monitoring the latest weather forecasts and air quality updates. Work activities should be reviewed and adjusted where necessary if environmental conditions become unsafe.
The health, safety, and well-being of our members remain our highest priority. Stay alert, stay hydrated, and continue to look out for one another.
Thank you.
